Our first encounter with Ryanair. Somehow, out of nowhere, we had €0 plane tickets in our hands 🙂 So, for just a few euros, we spent less than 24 hours in beautiful Milan. We indulged in authentic Italian pizza, admired the stunning Duomo cathedral, walked through fashionable streets lined with brands like D&G, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, and Versace. We visited the Sforza Castle, relaxed in a park under the lovely weather, and finally took the metro to the station.

Day 1 – Evening in Milan
We all meet at Bratislava airport. We agreed to meet an hour before the gate closes to avoid any time pressure. We are all traveling with only one carry-on bag, so we don’t have to wait for checked luggage. An enjoyable bonus is that we have Priority Boarding on our tickets, so we are equipped to board the plane first and smoothly. Isn’t it great for a free ticket? 🙂
TIP: For those who haven’t flown with Ryanair before: there is no seat assigned on the tickets, so everyone can sit wherever there is space.
We arrive at Bergamo airport in the evening. The flight was only about an hour and a half, no time difference, so that’s great. As soon as we stepped off the plane, we were greeted by the pleasant warm Italian air. Such a wonderful feeling 🙂 We try to navigate through the arrivals hall and look for where to buy tickets for the bus to Milan, specifically with the company ORIO SHUTTLE BUS. We purchase a roundtrip ticket and are shocked that the flight cost us less 🙂 I open a bottle of schnapps on the bus. During the 60-minute journey, we managed to refresh ourselves, and everyone was instantly in a better mood.
TIP: ORIO SHUTTLE BUS – timetable
In Milan, we get off the bus at a beautiful ancient station with a skyscraper in the background, the Pirelli skyscraper, which is also the tallest building in Milan. We take a few welcome photos, open the map, and head to find our hotel The Best Hotel, which is fortunately only about 10 minutes walk from the station. We easily find the hotel and communicate with Erazmo in English at the reception (completely without any problems :)). The hotel is clean, breakfast is included in the price, and it also has a nice little terrace with greenery.
TIP: Cheap accommodation in Milan
However, we don’t stay long at the hotel and head out to explore the surroundings. One of our friends lives in Milan, so we have a guide for the evening. We are quite hungry already, so we all agree that we want real Italian pizza and a good wine to go with it. Thanks to our experienced guide, before ten o’clock in the evening, we are sitting in a cozy restaurant, sipping wine and tasting various types of Italian pizza. After an hour or so, we leave the table and with unsure steps head back to the hotel so that we can set out early in the morning to discover Milan…
Day 2 – Duomo Cathedral and Sforzesco Castle
We wake up with a slight hangover, a line at the bathroom, and a rush for breakfast. It’s nice, but it could use about 3x more 🙂 Each of us gets juice, a croissant, coffee, and toast with jam. We check out and head straight into the city. We stroll along Corso Buenos Aires street right into the center.
We walk through various beautiful alleys with expensive shops. I’m not sure if I would spend €6,000 on a dress, though 🙂 We visited the Milan Cathedral. Wow, I’ve never seen something so grand and beautiful, how long did it take to build this? You can even climb to the top of the cathedral, but due to lack of time, we only admire it from the outside. Here, our friend experiences a mild shock when a seed is put into her hand, and suddenly she is surrounded by pigeons. By the way, she can’t stand pigeons. Just imagine that :))
Right next to the cathedral is a glass-roofed shopping arcade where you can find brands like Louis Vuitton or Prada.
Next is a tour of the fashionable streets. Our first attempt is the Versace store, where we were drawn in by golden doors. It’s a bit before 10 o’clock and the gentleman inside politely explains to us that we don’t belong here yet. I must point out, really politely and pleasantly. Here, we probably wouldn’t have such pleasant sales ladies 🙂
After wandering through the center streets, our steps lead to the Sforza Castle. You can also enter directly into the castle courtyard. There, we sit on a bench and indulge in goodies from home. Yes, pâtés rulezzz :))
We are leaving the castle and since we are starting to feel the fatigue in our legs, we head towards the adjacent Sempione Park in search of a place to buy some chilled beer. It was a good idea, and we spend a pleasant hour sitting on the grass, chatting, drinking, just chillin. Right at the beginning of the park, there is also an aquarium that we stumble upon by pure chance. It’s completely free, so we enjoy watching various marine creatures. A nice little diversion 🙂
We take the metro from the park to the station to also evaluate this mode of transport. There are three metro lines in Milan in total. It’s a pleasant way of getting around, especially very fast. The journey back passes quickly and nothing interesting happens to us. We spend the whole time chatting and planning our next trips.
