We have prepared an overview of the most useful travel apps that should not be missing on your smartphone. We use them without exception as well. We believe they will help make your travels successful! 🙂

MAPS

  • Google Maps – Google Maps are the alpha and omega of our trips, where we mark all the points of interest we want to see. A selected area on the map can also be downloaded for offline use.
  • Maps.me – maps using OpenStreetMap as a base layer – unlike Google Maps, they have better mapped tourist routes. Each country can be downloaded for offline use.
  • Waze – when we rent a car, we use either Google Maps or Waze for navigation.
  • Strava – used for recording routes, whether you are walking, hiking, running, cycling, or doing anything else.
  • Tripadvisor – we mainly use it to search for recommended restaurants nearby.

TRANSPORT

  • Uber – a taxi app that operates in 63 countries and more than 785 cities.
  • Bolt – a taxi app that operates in 34 countries and more than 150 cities.
  • Gett – An Israeli app that operates in more than 120 cities.
  • Moovit – an excellent app for real-time public transport departures.

FLIGHT TICKETS

  • Ryanair & Wizzair – it is advisable to have their app directly for low-cost flights, so you can do online check-in in the app and don’t have to print tickets.

PAYMENTS

  • Revolut – an online bank that we use either for card payments (no fees in foreign currency) or ATM withdrawals (free up to 200€).
  • Unicredit – free withdrawals from ATMs worldwide and advantageous exchange rates for card payments in foreign currency (no fees).
  • Splitwise – an app for splitting expenses among multiple crew members, different currencies can be used.

PHOTO & VIDEO

  • GIPHY Cam  – Simple editor for creating funny short animations.
  • Quik – Video editor from GoPro. Can automatically generate great videos. Just insert photos, video clips, and the app will take care of everything.
  • VSCO – Photo editor with plenty of filters.

MUSIC

  • ShazamYou have probably experienced the situation where you need to identify a song you are currently hearing. That’s exactly what the Shazam app is for.

COMMUNICATION

  • WhatsApp – Many accommodations nowadays use the WhatsApp application for communication, so it’s worth having it.

WEATHER

  • Yr – Norwegian weather forecast app that works worldwide.
