(14.05.2015 – 17.05.2015) Lipno is the perfect destination for a family getaway. All the interesting attractions are within walking distance. Let yourself be taken up by a cable car to the “Tree Top Walkway.” Then ride back on scooters to the reservoir, where you can rent an electric bike or an electric boat. But that’s just a small taste of what you can experience in Lipno.

Day 1 (14.05) – Arrival
At seven in the evening we arrived in Lipno nad Vltavou. The fatigue from the journey quickly faded away when we saw our accommodation. A spacious maisonette apartment right by the harbor with a large balcony and a view of the harbor at Landal Marina Lipno.
After a quick unpacking, we went for dinner to a nearby restaurant where we tasted, for example, an excellent beef steak from local farming with grilled vegetables for a surprisingly favorable price. We highly recommend it to all meat lovers 🙂
Day 2 (15.05.) – Intense Experiences
At eight in the morning, we were already sitting at the buffet breakfast in a different restaurant. We had a packed schedule ahead of us. After the meal, we moved to the area of the bobsleigh track, where we had a perfect ride. We will add a video to the article later 😉 Afterwards, we walked to the harbor where electric boats were waiting for us, provided by Intersport Rent. The maximum speed of the boats is 11km/h, which is enough for a pleasant ride.
After 1.5 hours, we returned to the harbor and headed for lunch, after which we took a cable car to the “Tree Top Walkway“. It is a large wheelchair-accessible platform that winds through the treetops. Along the way, there are various signs with interesting information about the trees and the construction itself. Camera stands are integrated along the walkway. At the very top, there is a large platform that offers a beautiful panoramic view. The most interesting part was yet to come. From this tower, you can descend down in a dry toboggan in a matter of seconds, which of course we had to try. We were seated on a special blanket and off we went through the tube. A very interesting experience. The speed was just right, just a little “spine-chilling”.
For the way back, we used off-road scooters. We were given helmets and set off on a marked trail. The journey down takes about 10 minutes. I would do it twice though 🙂

We parked the scooters and headed to relax in the pool, which was about 300m away from the apartment. The small 16m swimming pool with 28°C water was ideal for our relaxing swim. We also enjoyed the whirlpool and the wave machine in the pool area. The water fun was followed by a sauna session. After a short break in the room, we were looking forward to an evening boat cruise on the Lipno Dam with dinner. We sailed almost to Dolní Vltavice and back. During the cruise, we were especially intrigued by a tiny island inhabited only by rabbits. It was a pleasant conclusion to the evening. Or at least we thought that was the end of the program.
However, upon our return, a little surprise awaited us. Outside the apartment was a car waiting to take us to the “Tree Top Walkway.” We arrived at an illuminated hiking trail and embarked on a private nighttime walk all the way to the top, where we enjoyed the view in the nocturnal atmosphere.
Day 3 (16.05) – Electric Bikes, Cable Car, and Dragon Boats
We woke up to a beautiful morning. Just as we hoped, we were about to test electric bikes. After breakfast, we picked up the electric bikes at Intersport Rent-e and set off on a 22km ride around Lipno Reservoir, with a ferry ride to Frymburk. The electric bikes themselves were fantastic. We had to pedal, but whenever needed, the electric motor kicked in and helped us 🙂 The route we took had a special surface for skaters. We opted for a shorter route; the full circuit around the lake is 160km long!
After this very pleasant bike ride, we stopped for a local soda at the campsite, which was just a stone’s throw away from our accommodation. Luckily, on that day, there was a dragon boat competition taking place there. However, our visit there was scheduled for later.
We returned our bikes, went for lunch, but we were most looking forward to the next attraction. Rope park. We were equipped with harnesses, had a briefing, and then we were jumping around like monkeys. The whole rope course takes about 1.5 hours and ends with a pulley over a pond (you can go on the pulley only if you weigh less than 90 kg :). Highly recommended.
After completing the rope park, we had free time until evening, which we used to attend a dragon boat race. The great atmosphere, freshly tapped beer, and some snacks were worth it. Inside a large tent, we could also watch a match from the ongoing Ice Hockey World Championships. Just perfect like this entire weekend in the beautiful area of Lipno.
