(22.10.2015 – 25.10.2015) Have you already been to Prague and nothing can surprise you anymore? That’s what we thought too when we set off at the end of October for a PressTrip to the Czech Republic. However, during this trip, we found ourselves in a completely different, fairytale Prague. On our way from the Hundred-spired City, we visited the museum of the legendary Olomouc cheese and their salty confectionery. We also thoroughly explored other beauties of Moravia and the enchanting city of Olomouc itself. Let yourself be inspired, this trip was really worth it! 🙂

Day 1 (22.10.) – Prague
We set off in the morning from Bratislava in first class. It was nice to have more legroom. In Prague, we stayed at Hotel Pyramída. We can state that the hotel has a very friendly staff, cozy rooms, and great breakfasts.
This time, we were accompanied by the Czech Film Trips application, which led us to places where movies were filmed. The stories were complemented by beautiful views and Prague alleys. A perfect relaxation after this experience was a great dinner at the U Mlynáře restaurant. Of course, Becherovka had to be there 🙂
After dinner, we had another night program – a spooky walk through Prague, which gave us a completely different view of the Hundred-Spired City. You can read more about this tour in our separate article about this tour.
Day 2 (23.10.) – Loštice and Olomouc
In the morning, we had a transfer to Loštice, where our first stop was the Olomouckých Tvarůžků Museum. The museum guided us through the entire history of cheese production using modern technologies. Of course, a tasting and obligatory shopping at home products couldn’t be missed at the end.
A short distance from this museum is a very interesting and unconventional pastry shop. Traditional sweet pastries are complemented here by pastries made from Olomouckých cheese. We couldn’t miss this unconventional experience and tasted as much as we could 🙂
We had a pleasant lunch right next to the museum at U Coufalů restaurant.
With this, we completed the program in Loštice and the final transfer to Olomouc was awaiting us, a city with a history of more than a thousand years. Lonely Planet even labeled Olomouc as one of the most underrated places in the Czech Republic, and we can only agree.
We started the tour of Olomouc with the Archbishop’s Palace, then moved on to the beautiful St. Wenceslas Cathedral and the Archdiocesan Museum. You must see at least the cathedral and the Archdiocesan Museum. The cathedral is truly monumental, and in the museum located right next to it, you will find treasures like the bishop’s golden carriage and the monstrance Golden Sun of Moravia (an art piece with gemstones).Although we could spend a longer time here, the old town was waiting for us. We appreciated that all the sights from the program were relatively close to each other, allowing us to move around on our own 🙂
The city center itself is very beautiful and is dominated by the Holy Trinity Column and the Town Hall of Olomouc. What we would like to highlight specifically is Moravian Restaurant, located on this square. We haven’t experienced such a culinary delight, friendly staff, and amazing atmosphere for a long time. The old town itself comes alive even after dark, as we had the chance to find out. Olomouc is a student city, and you can see that in the evening.
After a pleasantly demanding day, we stayed at the Prachárna Hotel. The hotel is located outside the city, which is not ideal for walking to the city, but the sleep quality was excellent.
Day 1 (24.10.) – Eventful Day
We had another interesting day ahead of us. After a hearty breakfast, the bus took us to Holy Hill, where we had a tour of the Basilica of the Virgin Mary of the Holy Hill. It is the most popular excursion and pilgrimage site in the region, only 8km away from Olomouc. The basilica tour was conducted by Chaplain Ambrož Šámal, and he concluded the tour with a fabulous organ performance. It was an experience 🙂
We then headed to the beautiful Bouzov Castle, founded at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It rightfully belongs among the most visited landmarks in the Czech Republic and is a sought-after location for filmmakers. We hope our photos only confirm that 🙂
Before we knew it, lunch awaited us at Restaurant Arte, followed by a visit to the Handmade Paper Mill in Velké Losiny. This paper mill dates back to the 16th century, and the tour will give you a peek behind the scenes of paper production, complete with practical demonstrations.
After this tour, we had the main program of the day, Veľké Losiny Castle. The castle itself did not seem particularly grand. However, our guides and their storytelling made the experience unforgettable. We learned in detail about the alchemical processes of every piece of original furniture found there. It was very educational and interesting. So much so that we didn’t even realize it was getting dark outside 🙂
The evening concluded with relaxation in the thermal pools of Veľké Losiny spa and dinner at the Losin Restaurant., which borders a paper mill. Fantastic weekend behind us 🙂
